I am a full-time DPhil student working on early modern British and European Intellectual History, with a particular interest in debates about theology, epistemology and metaphysics and their relationship with the political and religious contexts of the English Civil War, Interregnum and Restoration. My project explores how the mid-seventeenth century genre of English philosophical apologetics was shaped by the immediate religious controversies which these texts were responding to but also how they drew upon a much wider range of intellectual traditions - both geographically and temporally - in order to construct their arguments. I am also interested more broadly in the intellectual history of the Reformation and the transformation and augmentation of classical, patristic and medieval philosophical and theological concepts in this period.
