Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow in Spanish
Exeter College
I am Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow in Spanish at Exeter College, Oxford. I specialise in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century literature and thought, working across the early global Hispanic world. My first monograph, The Epic Mirror: Poetry, Conflict Ethics and Political Community in Colonial Peru (Tamesis/Boydell&Brewer, 2022) studies how three Spanish-American writers and veterans used the medium of epic poetry to search for ethical solutions to the violent conflicts of their times and questioned what made a political community. I have also worked on theatre, the Iberian Sephardic diaspora, and comparative literary approaches, and my latest project focuses on sacred and Biblical poetry, including a two-volume critical edition of Miguel de Silveira’s El Macabeo.
