Professor of English Literature and the History of the Book
Balliol
I am interested in the relationship between literary effects and material forms; in life-writing; in the cultures of manuscript and print; and more broadly in the materiality of texts and the history of the book. I've written three monographs: Materials Texts in Early Modern England (CUP, 2017); Autobiography in Early Modern England (CUP, 2010); and Profit and Delight: Printed Miscellanies in England, 1640-1682 (Wayne State, 2004). I've also edited book collections on the history of autobiography, book destruction, and drink and conviviality. I write regularly for the London Review of Books about early modern culture and the history of the book. On twitter, I'm @ adamsmy36314691
